We are seniors in Toronto and confess to taking advantage of a monthly bargain. At Shoppers Drug Mart on the last Thursday of the month has 20% off most things. We save up and buy whatever we need at that time, including paper products, cosmetics etc. But, what some people don’t realize is that several SDM stores sell groceries. We have compared prices and for some things it is comparable or lower. If you go on the last Thursday you receive 20% off on your groceries too.

We use quite a bit of skim milk and the normal price for 4 liter bags at SDM is $3.99, which is about 70 cents cheaper than No Frills who sells it for about $4.69. If you shop on the last Thursday of the month you get it for $3.19 for 4 liters including the 20% discount. We buy enough for the month and lay it flat in the freezer. Some times a bag will leak when we thaw it, but you just put it in your jug and it is fine. You are saving about $1.50 per 4 liter bag. You always have milk in the house and never have to contemplate whether you should make that pudding or hot chocolate. Who doesn’t like a nice cold drink of milk.

Also, on Seniors’ Day SDM usually gives a gift if you spend over a certain amount. This week it was a free dinner at Swiss Chalet for spending over $50.
