Do I Really Need That?

It might be good to be careful when watching television commercials, and especially with children. These are basically a form of brain washing. If you don’t believe that, just see how often the same commercial is shown during any one show.

Many commercials are so exaggerated that they are humorous. The lady that is in jail behind her shower curtain until she gets the shower clean; the man that can’t dust the floor without a Swiffer; how about the one that calls a submarine sandwich a dinner meal. We have tried and can vouch for the fact that you do not grow longer lashes from Cover Girl lash makeup. We have done a survey and discovered that yogurt is yogurt.

I think you get the idea. If your children are present, show them how ridiculous most commercials are and teach them to always ask themselves “do I really need that? What is an alternative that will be good for the environment?”

ps: From me, Ruth. There are so many commercials these days that even scare me. To think that the mentality of people has become so small. I mean some of the commercials are so ridiculous, and meaningless to the actual product being sold.

- There is one commercial on the radio about a guy who is looking for a certain fiber to eat so he makes a call to find out where he can get this fiber. And the product being sold? Good year tires with certain fiber in them. If you are selling tires, tell me why I should buy them, not about fiber!

And, of course, they feed on YOUR ego. Like the one for mother’s day:

“You found the perfect gift for your mom, now reward yourself and get something for yourself”

I mean, how ridiculous is this advertising. But, how many people actually “buy it”?
